Presentation Abstract:
Veterans are using cannabis over their prescribed pills all across the nation. Whether they are in a legal state or not, veterans are purchasing and using cannabis to replace many pills. From PTSD, TBI, cancer, and other ailment suffered from the battlefield, veterans use cannabis to treat their medical issues claiming much better results than their doctor prescribed pills. Why is this? Much of it has to do with the change in their daily routines due to cannabis use.

Presentation Abstract:
The veteran community is unique when it comes to healthcare. Research shows that veterans are 60% more likely to become addicted to opioids than civilians. Intervention is necessary to prevent conditions from getting worse. The current standard of care within the Veterans Administration includes multiple prescription medications that frequently lead to additional medical issues requiring additional prescription drugs. The system is quickly becoming unsustainable, as it often results in overdose or suicide attempt. Many veterans are choosing to replace their pills with a plant. The active ingredients in cannabis drive three main responses from the body: increased water consumption, uninterrupted sleep, and improved social relationships. These three impacts create a foundation for the veteran to regain control of their health and contribute to society in a meaningful way. This presentation focuses on these healthy side effects, and the benefit to the veteran’s community and society at-large. Key Topics · What Is Cannabis? · The veteran mind · Sleep, hydration, and healing through cannabis · The veteran’s role in our communities
